The removal of the existing railway bridge crossing the Afon Mawddach river estuary at Barmouth, North Wales by Pennys in October 2023 garnered significant attention from the community. In response to the public interest, Pennys commissioned a scale model of the original bridge using scrap steel salvaged from the dismantled structure. This model was carefully crafted and presented to the local school as a token of remembrance for the iconic landmark. Additionally, the bridge sections were meticulously lowered onto pontoons and transported to a designated salvage area on a nearby beach for further disposal.
The Pennys Team, in collaboration with the Network Rail Safety Team, were captured below as they proudly presented the model bridge to the students of Ysgol Y Traeth – Barmouth Junior School. As they engaged with the eager young minds, the team answered all questions from the curious children, ensuring a thorough understanding of the project and its importance.
We are grateful to the local school for generously dedicating their time to allow us to present our model of the bridge for the school to keep. Thank you for your support and cooperation in making this presentation possible.
